Did you read our setup guide about how to create invoices in different languages? If you haven’t read it yet, please click here to read it before reading this guide.
When you install Simple Invoice, it automatically creates a “default” invoice template for your store. You can select the document language when you setup for the first time from the Document Language dropdown menu. The document language can be changed from the Language section under the templates. You can get more information from our step-by-step guide by clicking here.
If you are selling products in just one country, it is better to use just the default template, it simplifies the invoicing workflow. If you are selling globally, you can use the “Multi-Language” functionality of Simple Invoice to send invoices according to the language of your customer.
Let’s say that you have activated English and German in your Simple Invoice account:
According to this setup:
You have a default invoice template in English. You have an invoice template for Germany in German. You have an invoice template for the United States and the United Kingdom in English.
- Customers from Germany will automatically receive their invoices in German.
- Customers from the United States will automatically receive their invoices in English.
- The rest of the world will receive their invoices in English since your “Default” template is also in English.
As stated above, all text fields are inline editable and the default template can be translated into any language. For example, you can simply translate it into German by selecting German from the Language section in Templates. You can also separately customize your English and German invoice templates from the “Templates” section.
What about countries like Luxembourg?
Luxembourg has 3 national languages. Luxembourgish, German and French. It is not technically possible for us to detect the visitor’s native language. Because of this reason, your customers from Luxembourg will receive the default template as an invoice.
Why I’m not able to send invoices from my Shopify dashboard in different languages?
If you have added multiple languages and trying to send invoices from the “Orders” page of your Shopify dashboard, Simple Invoice can only send the “default” template. Shopify offers a limited amount of slots for the “More Action” button and apps can only add basic actions to the “More Actions” button.
If you wish to manually send invoices in different languages, you can send them from the “Orders” page of Simple Invoice.
Navigate to the Simple Invoice dashboard, select the invoices you wish to send from the Orders section of the Simple Invoice, change the language from the Language dropdown menu and click on the Send button.
Can I send invoices automatically in the language of my customers?
If you have activated the automatic invoice delivery functionality of Simple Invoice, your customers will receive their invoices according to the country they select during the checkout. If there is no language option available regarding your customers’ addresses, the Default template will be processed.
For example, if your customers are from Germany. They will automatically receive their invoice in German.
